Simple Regimen For New Naturals

source

No matter how lazy a natural you intend to be, it is important to have a regimen in place for keeping your hair moisturised. Moisturised hair is strong, healthy and has a natural sheen. Below is a very simple regimen for any new natural struggling to develop a routine.

WEEKLY
Sunday:
  • Cowash using a silicone-free conditioner, paying attention to your scalp.
  • Detangle using your fingers or a wide tooth comb while hair is saturated with conditioner. Rinse and dry with a t-shirt.
  • Apply a Moisture deep conditioner (DC), cover your head and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Once a month, do a protein deep conditioner instead.
  • Rinse out the deep conditioner, dry your hair with a t-shirt and apply a leave-in conditioner .
  • Seal with an oil or butter. Don't forget your ends or your hairline!
  • Style and go.
Tuesday and Thursday
  • Moisturise hair before bed with a leave-in or a water-based butter or cream.
  • Seal your ends and wrap your hair in a silk or satin scarf or bonnet for bedtime. Alternatively, sleep on a satin pillowcase.

ONCE A MONTH
Saturday:
  • Prepoo by generously applying a penetrating oil to dry hair.
  • Leave oil on overnight.
Sunday
  • Shampoo hair with a sulfate-free shampoo, paying attention to your scalp, then rinse.
  • Condition for 3-5 minutes then rinse and partially dry with a t-shirt.
  • Apply a moisture deep conditioner, cover your head and let it sit for 20-30 minutes.
  • Rinse, dry hair with a t-shirt and apply a leave-in conditioner.
  • Seal with an oil or butter. Don't forget your ends or your hairline!
  • Style and go.

ONCE EVERY THREE MONTHS

Optional Extras:
ONCE A MONTH:

Bonus Tips
1. Avoid heat. Using direct heat regularly causes dryness and breakage. To stretch hair without heat, try threading, banding, matutas or twists (these give you the least stretch). If you must use heat, always use a heat protectant and try not to aim for bone-straight hair.
2. Don't comb your hair when it's dry
