How To Plan Your Wash Day If You Live In Africa*

*Yes, yes, I know Africa is not a country but damned if many of us don't recognise at least one of these problems. Plus, I'm a blogger, it's my right to base my writing on personal opinion, gross generalisations, poor research and plagiarism. #factsbedamned

Wash day is a big day for naturals anywhere in the world. But it's an even bigger deal if you live in a developing country where every day is an adventure.

1. First, check the newspaper to see if there is any power electricity or water rationing planned outages in your area. These are usually meant to last from 9am - 5pm but African Time means this is simply a rough guideline and should by no means be used to plan your day around.

How Much Time Is Too Much To Spend On Your Hair?

source

I saw a thread the other day discussing how long women spend doing their natural hair every week. Some people were like 20-30 minutes (how??) while most said 1 or 2 hours. One poor honest sod said it takes her a day and a half and she got straight clowned! I was actually surprised by how many women were like 'Oh, it takes me hardly any time to do my hair start to finish' because, while I consider my hair low maintenance majority of the time, when it comes to wash day, #forgetaboutit. I have to stop for meals and everything. So I decided to run through my most frequent hair processes to see how many hours of my life I spend on my hair.

Would You Trust Your Partner To Do Your Child's Hair?

There are always pictures and videos making the rounds on the net of dads styling their daughter's hair. They're all super cute and make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside...until it happens to you.

My husband and daughter recently planned a two week holiday to go and visit his family. I was freaking OUT for probably a month before the trip because although he has watched me do her hair hundreds a bunch of times, he's never really paid attention to the intricacies of her hair regimen. You know what I mean. It's not just whacking on any old conditioner and off you go. Nooooo. The devil is in the details. Now in fairness, he has attempted on a few occasions to wash her hair but she never lets him. I mean, she's 2, she doesn't like anyone do her hair. Hair time usually consists of threats, pleas, bribes, coercion, distraction and good ol' mama-isn't-playing-anymore face. But Daddy is too soft and she sees him coming a mile off.

What's In Your Spray Bottle?

I play around a lot with spray bottle recipes, usually depending on what products I have in the house, but this is definitely my favourite so far and one that I keep coming back to and have been using consistently for quite a few months now. It doesn't need a ton of ingredients, it has great slip, is pH balanced and my hair feels so soft when I spray it on.

  • 200 ml Distilled Water: I only use distilled because we live in a hard water area so I try to minimise buildup as much as possible. If you live in a soft water area then ordinary tap water will do just fine.
